Distributed Generic Information Retrieval (DiGIR) is an open-source protocol used to search and retrieve information from multiple databases with dissimilar data sources. The DiGIR protocol used in FishNet 2 is a great improvement over the Z39.50 protocol used in the original FishNet, providing more flexibility to use with the internet and greater stability of the distributed network.
